Extra credit to anyone who plays this and writes me a review of it, including how it compares to the novel. You must include a photo of you playing it so I know you really did.

  1. The game is the journey of Nick and finding who Gatsby is. Nick has to kill enemies like server, flappers and Dr. T.J. Eckleburg. I finished the part One where it ended with killing Dr. T.J. Eckleburg in the valley of ashes. How the novel kept Gatsby as a mysterious character is the whole theme of the game because main goal is meeting Gatsby through long journey.Like Super Mario game, nick collects money through journey and I thought this symbolized new money. And as he collects money he kills the lower class people like the server and flappers which I thought relates American Dream and Nick is a social climber. On the second part of Part One, Nick collects money by killing train conductors, another lower class people. At the end, Nick fights with Dr. T.J. Eckleburg. The big eyes of the oculist in the billboard seems to judge the valley of ashes with warning skepticism. The doctor represents the critique of industrialization and misery of people who did not achieve American Dream but living in a land of waste and poverty which is symbolized by ash. Nick's fight with the eyes shows his defiance of the doctor's warning of people's conspicuous consumption in New York. I also want to relate this game to the debate we had in the class. I think the game is made in the view that the novel is the critique of American Dream. Nick's killing of innocent looking people and collecting money make his American Dream amoral.
