Cover Art
Now that we have finished the book, what do you think the picture on the cover of the book means? Who is the crying person? What does her/his face show us/tell us? What events in the story does it connect to?
I think the face is Daisy's face from Gatsby's perspective. She has no face or anything to represent the fact that Gastby's version of Daisy was a dream, it wasn't REAL, just like this face. Behind the face is a sort of city scene or something bright and colorful. From the outside life on East and West Egg looked great, wealthy, and fun. But when we examined it more the people were boring and snobbish. The blurriness of the scene I think represents East and West egg. Also, this could be related back to any scene in the valley of ashes. First of all, the Dr. Eckleburg (or however you spell it) also was missing his face, it was on the eyes left to look down on the decay of morals, the poverty, and the sadness.
